Hull based Private Art Therapist

ART THERAPY SERVICE FOR CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE.

I provide an Art Therapy service in Hull and surrounding areas for children and young people which is based in children's centres, colleges and schools (mainstream and special education) or from my Art Therapy room at K2, Bond Street in central Hull.

Emotional difficulties can be presented in different ways, affecting the mental health and well-being of the child or young person. Referrals are for children and young people who have complex emotional needs, experiences of past trauma and may have a diagnosis i.e Autism, ADHD. Individual Art Therapy provides a consistent, therapeutic space with the aim of supporting self-expression and communication of how a child or young person experiences the world.

Art Therapy is an approach that can help support the child or young person work through issues in a less direct way which can be beneficial especially if they find one to one situations difficult.  Early intervention can also prevent a need for further services becoming involved.

WHAT IS OFFERED & TIMESCALES OF ART THERAPY.

Time is required to develop a trusting therapeutic relationship. Each plan of therapy is according to reasons for requesting Art Therapy and individual needs of the child or young person. The initial few sessions are an opportunity to explore if Art Therapy is a suitable approach for the child or young person. To maintain consistency, appointments are at the same time on a weekly basis and 50 minutes in duration.

The progress of Art Therapy is reviewed at appropriate stages and any recommendations of longer term therapy could be helpful it would be discussed with the school/college, family and referrer.

The ending stage of therapy needs to be managed carefully. Part of this is to support the child or young person to work through any experiences of separation and loss in their life.
